‘Tis the season for my easy Christmas popcorn (aka snowman popcorn as my kids call it!)! Made with popcorn tossed in melted marshmallows and your favorite festive mix-ins. It’s sweet, crunchy, and perfect for holiday parties or gifting! And since it’s quick and easy to make (and doesn’t involve raw eggs!), it’s a great holiday treat to make with the kiddos.

- Fast and easy prep: All you need is 15 minutes, popcorn, mini marshmallows, coconut oil and your favorite holiday mix-ins to make this yummy holiday treat!
- Sweet and salty balance: Salty popcorn, sweet marshmallows and festive sprinkles — need I say more?!
- Customizable mix-ins: Want to use leftover m&ms? Great! Want to sprinkle the heck out of your Christmas popcorn? Go for it! Really the options are endless here.
Ingredients Needed
- Popcorn kernels: You’ll want to pop your own popcorn for this recipe! Freshly popped popcorn won’t have any additives on the kernels, so it will coat super nicely in the melted mallows.
- Coconut oil: I like to pop my popcorn in coconut oil because of the flavor! It’s subtle and a little sweet.
- Mini marshmallows: Mini marshmallows melt really easily and evenly, which is why I prefer the minis to the standard size marshmallows.
- Fun mix-ins: Choose your own adventure here!

How to Make Christmas Popcorn
- Make the popcorn: Add the coconut oil and the popcorn kernels into a large pot with a lid. Put over medium heat and cook until all of the kernels have popped. Pro tip: it’s time to remove from heat once the popping slows to every few seconds.
- Melt the marshmallows: Heat a large nonstick skillet over low heat and add the remaining coconut oil. Once the oil has melted, add the salt and marshmallows. Stir frequently until the marshmallows have melted.
- Fold it all together: Add the popcorn to the pan of melted marshmallows and stir until just combined. Don’t forget to add your favorite mix-ins.
- Serve and enjoy! Serve in your favorite family popcorn bowl or roll them into balls to make “snow” balls!
Can I use Microwave Popcorn?
For sure ! One bag of microwave popcorn yields approximately 10 cups of popcorn. One thing to note is super buttery popcorn will have a more difficult time adhering to the melted marshmallows, so try to avoid overly buttered varieties.
Variations & Add-Ins
- Peppermint chips
- White chocolate drizzle
- Mini m&ms
- Multi-colored sprinkles
- Powdered sugar
- Google-y eyes to make it look like snowmen!
- Add red or green food coloring to the melted marshmallows
How to Serve It
Is there a wrong way to serve this Christmas popcorn? Definitely not! But I’ve found that most often I’m making this festive treat for holiday parties or movie nights at home with my kiddos. This popcorn can also make a great gift for teachers, neighbors or friends.
Storage Notes
Store this Christmas popcorn in an airtight container in a cool, dark place for up to 5 days. It tends to clump more the longer it sits, and becomes more chewy and less crunchy.
