The world of pharmacies is undergoing a major shift – not surpisingly, given the changes afoot in the overall healthcare industry. Independent pharmacies are hard to find with many of them shuttering and even established retail pharmacies are struggling. New models of medication delivery have emerged with the likes of Mark Cuban’s Cost Plus Drug Company as well as Amazon and several other mail-order pharmacies. Meanwhile, the pandemic underscored the value of pharmacists in American society as they took on the heavy load of administering vaccines among other tasks, playing a pivotal role in making sure the shots reached arms.

So, for the final episode of Season 2, which focused on the evolution of pharmacies and PBMs, the Pivot podcast is featuring Rick Ratliff, who for a time was the CEO of Surescripts, which operates the largest e-prescribing network, and built a national digital prescription network connecting doctors to pharmacies. Ratliff also built the nation’s first website/network for pharmacists to help with recovery efforts during Katrina in 2005.

He is currently the CEO of MedAdvisor Solutions, which provides pharmacy-led patient and pharmacist engagement solutions.
